Discusses the origins and development of social exclusion as a concept and how it is defined. The key policy responses to labour market exclusion in the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU) are examined. Describes how inequalities in education and training lead to experiencing social exclusion. Examines what socially excluded groups and individuals face by having their social and economic needs not being acted upon, which is referred to as political exclusion.
