The book describes the experience of designing and implementing the cost sharing programme and the lessons learnt from it in Kenya. The economical, social and health aspects that enabled the development of the programme are explained. Background information on the programme and its design are also provided. The initial implementation phase and the problems encountered are explained detailing what changes had to be made for the eventual successful implementation. Organisation and management elements of the programme are also described including the accounting and financial aspects. An analysis of the programme reveals the impact of the changes on revenue, quality of care, expenditure, and utilisation. The lessons learnt from the experience are listed from which future challenges are drawn.
