The findings of a study of community pharmacies and their role in providing basic health care with focus on rural areas and how cost recovery affects their existence are reported here. The study revealed the potential for reasonable cost recovery which it attributed to the flexible pricing and procurement systems. The constraints to effective cost recovery are listed all indicating inadequate capacities. The recommendations suggested and conclusions drawn are all contained in the report.
