Presents a study that was carried out so as to develop a new kind of information programme to be provided by community pharmacists to groups of doctors at community health centres in Sweden, and to test the success of this programme in improving the clinical performance of the primary health care doctors. A randomised controlled trial was performed in Sweden within the primary health care system in order to evaluate the effect on clinical practice in the intervention group compared with doctors in the control group who only got regular written information material. The specific target used for the intervention programme was management of hyperlipidaemia (hypercholesterolaemia). Findings reveal that community pharmacists can act as facilitators in 'academic detailing' of national treatment guidelines.
