The findings of a poverty assessment study by the Kenyan government and the World Bank are reported here. The study aimed to understand poverty as viewed by the poor and those who assist them, and to start dialogue between the poor, district-level service providers and the policy makers. Data was collected from six agricultural districts in which households were ranked as very poor, poor, medium or rich. Based on the findings the most striking statistic recorded was that about 86.7 percent of the participants saw their situation only get worse with time. Their ideas on poverty and the factors contributing to increase it are explained along with conclusions drawn and recommendations suggested.Sponsered by the British ODA and UNICEF
