Presents information on a global survey carried out by the World Health Organization Action Programme on Essential Drugs so as to assess the experience of public health interventions in rational drug use. The experience gained can then be shared or built on. The survey began with a search of standard literature data bases, complemented by an effort to access information on projects that had not been published (grey literature). Later, a questionnaire was drawn up and produced in English, French and Spanish. The findings revealed several things such as the need for finacial support to be adequate and consistent, the need for improved collaboration with professional partners and with target groups and the need for better planning.
