The evolutionary development of wound management products is described by looking at their performance profiles. Passive products insulate and protect the wounds and many of these are absorbent. Interactive products attempt to produce an environment above the wound, which allow optimal healing. Bioactive products intervene in the healing process by optimizing the conditions necessary for wound healing.
