The impact of the AIDS pandemic on health services in Africa: evidence from demographic and health surveys
- Cambridge National Bureau of Economic Research 2009
Documents the impact of HIV crisis on non AIDS related health services in fourteen sub-Saharan African countries and examines antenatal care, birth deliveries and rates of immunization for children born between 1988 and 2005 using multiple waves of demographic and health surveys for each country. Discusses ways in which future health service delivery may be affected by the arrival of antiretroviral therapy and notes that the design of HIV care should take into account that people living in regions most affected by AIDS may not have been receiving adequate medical care for the past 20 years.
