Describes the response of different countries and Europe to the Chernobyl accident that occurred in Ukraine on 26th April, 1986. This was a nuclear accident and a human tragedy as it resulted in large-scale displacement of populations, the contamination of vast areas of land, and the loss of livelihoods. Presents a number of suggestions on how emergency management and communication with the public can be enhanced in relation to nuclear accidents.
