Issues in people management: the changing role of the trainer - London Institute of Personnel and Development 1999 - xii, 58p.

Discusses the changing role of the trainer. According to this book, the word trainer includes all those who are involved in the training and development of people. The research for this report was carried out by means of semi-structured interviews with employing organisations in both the private and public sectors, followed by focus groups of members of the Institute of Personnel and Development (IPD) to test the preliminary findings. There were several changes in the role of trainers, which were described by the respondents such as a greater emphasis on basing interventions on research data; an increase in the use of work-based approaches; an increase in consultancy activities and greater interest in the strategic contribution of training. Respondents were not interested in the language of training, but rather in working at the activities it involved.
