Tanzania is severely affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic and AIDS is the leading cause of adult mortality in both urban and rural areas. The epidemic necessitated a National concerted action and elaboration of a National policy on HIV/AIDS. A national institutional set up and had to be established to coordinate and provide strategic leadership that will address new challenge.
