This study is initiated in response to widespread interest generated by apparent successes in mainstreaming environmental issues into Tanzania National strategy for Growth and reduction of poverty (MKUKUTA- Box 1). Our close examination of Tanzania's experience compels to dispense with the idea of single narrative attributing success to one intervention operating independently.
