Presents guidance on disclosure, which is intended to contribute to a comprehensive approach to ensuring the physical, emotional, cognitive and social well-being of a developing child following their own diagnoses of HIV or that of a parent or close caregiver. Provides benefits of overcoming complex disclosure decisions particularly when children are involved because of concerns about children's emotional and aptitudinal ability to understand and cope with the nature of the illness, stigma, family relations and concerns about social support. Highlights challenges on disclosure which include HIV-related stigma; changing caregivers and caregivers? roles; high mobility of children between families; vulnerable caregivers e.g. grandparents and young siblings; homelessness; institutional care; the high burden of care on health .
