Mortality statistics in Herat province of Afghanistan. Methods of data collection include sampling, questionnaires, interviews, testimonies among others.Findings show that women have an extraordinarily high risk of dying during pregnancy and childbirth and Afghanistan has the highest maternal mortality ratio in the world outside of Africa. This is as a result of combined effects of 20 years of war; imposed restrictions on women's rights; health care inaccessibility and women's role in society.
