Provides the background information in terms of the burden of HIV and AIDS in sub Saharan Africa and the mandate of Regional AIDS and Training Network to address the challenge of inadequate capacity and skills for effective HIV response. Presents the strategic direction for the Regional AIDS Training Network for the period 2009-2014 which aims to strengthen the capacity of individuals and institutions in the Eastern and Southern region to effectively respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic through training and capacity building development, information sharing and advocacy.
