Provides information on a project in Thembisile Municipality whose overall goal is to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable children who are living in the Thembisile health ward of Mpumalanga Province. The purpose of this project is to care for vulnerable children, especially those who are on their own. A participatory baseline survey was conducted so as to identify the magnitude and underlying causes of child vulnerability in the health ward. The methods of research were cross-sectional surveys, interviews and focus group discussions. The survey reveals that poverty undermines several aspirations of the Thembisile communities.
