Describes the effort taken by Brazil with assistance from the World Bank to contain the growth of the HIV epidemic through two projects. The World Bank has provided both technical and financial assistance to support prevention, treatment and care, including research. The overall objectives of AIDS I and AIDS II are to decrease the incidence and transmission of HIV and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) infection. Discusses the challenges experienced by the projects and the lessons learned.
