This book addresses community participation in development as experienced by many African countries. It presents background information on implementation and planning of development programmes, theoretical concepts and assumptions in community development, methods employed by community development workers in mobilising and involving communities, and factors facilitating and inhibiting community development. The book explains community development as an educational approach that enables people acquire knowledge and skills which if put to use bring about material and non-material growth.
