This is a report on a Welfare Monitoring Survey (WMS) carried out in in 1997 in Kenya so as to discover the poverty situation in the country inorder to deal with the poverty challenges experienced. WMS series was launched by the Government in collaboration with the World Bank. To get the welfare information, three modules were used, which are core, expenditure and agriculture. Data presented focuses mainly on the core and expenditure modules. Features of household demographics, education and health are part of the core module while featutes of household expenditures on food and non-food items form the expenditure module.
