Environmental problems faced in Third World countries are examined using different perspectives. One such perspective is the environmental/health interrelationship that provides an overview of the illness patterns in these countries. Ways of preventing and controlling these diseases are suggested and a mix of interventions recommended for maximum effectiveness. The interface between food production and environmental deterioration is addressed focusing on nutritional implications and community participation. Other discussions cover socio-cultural and economic change and its impact on mental health, urbanisation and its effects on children and the youth, impact of improving situations on water use and resultant health problems among others.
