Discusses issues of population and urban growth and the resulting deterioration of hygienic and sanitary conditions in the urban slums of sub-saharan Africa. In addition, it looks at health status in terms of prevalent diseases in African slums, health care, and the stat of water supply, shelter and sanitation. Finally, it makes recommendations on the way forward with regard to environmental health and sanitation in African slums.
