Discusses the impact of the change of society from hunter-gatherer to agricultural has had on demography by examining the time series, family reconstitution and the changes in developing countries during the twentieth century. Some of the issues discussed include mortality of children due to infectious diseases, fertility due to dietary adaptations, and infant deaths due to inadequate nutrition of pregnant mothers. It suggests that the adverse effects of malnutrition were worsened by regular fluctuation in the supply of grains and the annual hungry season due to agricultural lifestyles.
