Examines disaster response and the ways in which relief agencies provide aid and assistance in developing countries with specific focus on international disaster assistance. The fundamental themes of the book are that the poor are most affected by disasters because of their situation and focus should be on alleviating poverty and placing disaster response in the context of development. The book examines natural disasters and how societies are affected, the response to these disasters by international aid agencies, and ways in which the response can be improved through proper planning before and after the disaster.
