500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note Presents a study that focuses on the nutritional conditions among farming households who are engaged in irrigated rice cultivation in the Kano plain, Kisumu district, Kenya. The study represents the existing types of participation in irrigated rice production in the area. Household surveys were carried out among certain groups while socio-economic information and agricultural data were collected using structured interviews. Differences in nutrition have been indicated to be as a result of differences in resource availability and are not associated with poor health conditions. Supporting and promoting rice cultivation on an individual basis in present and future small-scale schemes is suggested as this type of rice production is seen to widen the resource base of small farmers.
