| General note | This booklet explains antiretroviral therapy and the care necessary when using antiretroviral drugs. It explains what antiretroviral therapy entails mentioning the various drugs used in therapy and their functions in the body. The occurence of HIV is explained providing details of how the body's immune system reaches a state of low immunity and the eventual acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It explains that due to the low immunity of the body the likelihood of one suffering other diseases is high hense the opportunistic infections. The deterioration of the body is explained highlighting the stages that one may go through and the need for medication at each stage. |
